Wentling Announces Grants for Area Food Banks
January 30, 2026
HARRISBURG –Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced today that two food banks located in the 7th Legislative District have been awarded grant funding by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
This funding comes from DEP’s Food Recovery Infrastructure Grant Program, which awards funding to food banks to help reduce food waste.
The food banks receiving funding are:
• Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County - $49,047
• Good Shepherd Center - $17,128
“This is excellent news for these two wonderful food banks that serve many members of our community every day,” said Wentling. “These grants will help both purchase new equipment to safely store and transport food and limit waste in our community, while making sure that fresh food helps fight hunger, rather than go to waste.”
Funding from this program is focused on reimbursing the cost of equipment like refrigerators, freezers, refrigerated and non-refrigerated vehicles, stoves, and microwaves to store, transport, or prepare the recovered safe, fresh and wholesome foods to ensure the food can be redistributed to the public.
