Wentling: $800,000 Grant for Omega Logging Expansion in Hermitage
July 17, 2026
GREENVILLE – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) on Thursday announced Omega Logging Inc. has been awarded $800,000 through Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program to support the company’s redevelopment of the former Sawhill Tubular manufacturing site in Hermitage.
The project calls for a comprehensive conversion of the former steel mill property, including retrofitting the existing superstructure, constructing new office space and upgrading equipment.
“Omega Logging has been part of Mercer County’s business community for nearly 50 years, growing into a leading regional producer of industrial lumber and fine hardwood products,” Wentling said. “Transforming this former manufacturing property will allow a successful local company to expand its operations while returning an important industrial site to productive use. I was pleased to advocate for this funding and help move this worthwhile project forward.”
Founded in 1976, Omega Logging’s affiliated Omega Lumber operations manufacture industrial lumber, pallet stock and specialty wood products and provide sustainable forestry and logging services. The company manages more than 5,000 acres of timberland and has multiple facilities in western Pennsylvania.
“I’m really excited about the good this can do,” said Patrick Chovan, president of Omega Logging Inc., of the funding. “Parke came and walked the site with us and he was critical in us securing this funding. Parke’s willingness to fight for businesses like ours is a big win for Hermitage and our growing economy.”
The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, administered by the Pennsylvania Office of the Budget, supports the acquisition, design and construction of economic development and other regional improvement projects.
