Wentling: $1.14 Million Green Light-Go Grant for Sharon Traffic Improvements

GREENVILLE – State Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) on Tuesday announced the City of Sharon has been awarded a nearly $1.14 million Green Light-Go grant to modernize traffic signals and incorporate curb extensions at three intersections along East State Street.

The funding will support improvements at the intersections of East State Street and Sharpsville Avenue, Dock Street and Railroad Street.

“Folks in Sharon travel East State Street every day to get to work, visit local businesses and go about their daily lives, so it’s important that these intersections are as safe and reliable as possible,” said Wentling. “This grant will help the city make practical improvements that will benefit drivers and pedestrians alike, and I’m glad to see these state dollars coming back home to support our community.”

Curb extensions widen the sidewalk at intersections, shortening the distance pedestrians must cross and helping make them more visible to approaching motorists. They also can encourage slower vehicle speeds as drivers enter an intersection.

Pennsylvania’s Green Light-Go program provides state funding to municipalities for traffic signal modernization and other improvements designed to enhance safety and mobility.
