Wentling Announces $990,000 for Mercer County Career Training Programs

October 21, 2026

HARRISBURG – Two Mercer County schools will receive a combined $990,000 to expand career training opportunities in the highway industry, Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced today.

The funding was awarded through the first round of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Career and Technical Education Grant Program.

“As a former industrial arts and technology teacher, I know the value of learning by doing,” Wentling said. “These grants will help our students learn a trade, earn a good living and build a future right here at home.”

The Mercer County recipients are:

• Farrell Area School District: $490,000 to establish a middle school summer trades program focused on careers in the heavy highway industry.
• Mercer County Career Center: $500,000 to expand its existing commercial driver’s license training program.

The competitive grant program supports career education, technical training, industry certifications and on-the-job learning for middle school, high school and college students preparing for highway industry careers.
