Wentling Announces Federal Grants for Mercer County Libraries
October 27, 2026
GREENVILLE – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) today announced two Mercer County libraries have been awarded a combined $11,511.48 in federal funding for projects that will help young children develop reading skills and support families and educators.
The Community Library of the Shenango Valley in Sharon received $8,788 for its Riverwalk Park StoryWalk project, which will display pages from a children’s book along a walking path in Sharon’s Riverwalk Park. The project will give families a free way to enjoy reading together while spending time outdoors.
Greenville Area Public Library received $2,723.48 for its Teacher Resource Library project. The library will develop literacy-based kits tied to children’s books and educational themes, giving teachers resources to support early reading, language development and classroom engagement.
“These projects will give children more opportunities to discover the joy of reading, both in the classroom and out in the community,” Wentling said.
The funding comes through the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Action Grants program, provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, which supports projects designed to expand library services and address local community needs.
